Dance Partners

smiling like teenagers
no better, with matching fake IDs and
a darkness all our own
we dance through the night
and somehow the memory
of something
rotting inside slips
beyond the haze
and I feel more alive
than I ever did
when I was
alone and cold
I never saw a future
like you
and now I have
buddies
foxtrotting beside me
singing in the
dark and they are
so dark, each in their
way, but somehow
they lighten me
and we chassé
together in the
moonlight
and when we collapse
in heaps of giggles
and hedonist howls
somehow
there is nowhere
I'd rather be
